Our Co-Head Coaches John Hood and Kelsey Geisler lead the Moore Catholic Girl’s Basketball Program.
Coach Hood played four-years at Monsignor Farrell HS and currently works at the National Basketball Association in the League Operations department. He graduated from Quinnipiac University with a BA in Journalism and a Masters in Business Administration, where he was a member of the Women’s basketball practice team. Coach Hood has worked in the game of basketball for 10 years including roles at ESPN and Dream Leagues Inc, where he was the COO before moving on to his current role at the NBA. Coach Hood’s coaching resume includes stints at Our Lady of Pity and one year as the Mavericks’ JV Head Coach.
Coach Geisler graduated as valedictorian of St. Peter’s HS, where she was a four-year player. She continued her playing career at Elmira College on a Valedictorian Scholarship. Coach Geisler graduated Cum Laude with her BS in Education and a Masters in Special Education from Brooklyn College. She is currently a 3rd grade Special Education teacher at Public School 16. Coach Geisler’s coaching resume includes stints as a Head Coach at St. Patrick’s and one year as the Mavericks’ Varsity Lead Assistant Coach.
Our main goal is to mold these young ladies into respectful, responsible and high character student athletes that are leaders in all aspects in life. Surrounded by a coaching staff primarily of educators and civil servants, each student athlete will be held to the highest academic and athletic standards.

Our boys basketball program is headed by Associate Athletic Director Kyle McAlarney ‘05. Coach McAlarney comes back to Moore Catholic after a collegiate and professional career that is unmatched on Staten Island. He finished his high school career as the all time leading scorer in Staten Island history, earned a full scholarship to the University of Notre Dame, and had a stellar 9 year professional career that spanned the globe.
Our program is founded on Coach McAlarney’s 5 principles: Relationships, Joy, Education, Integrity, and Humility.
The Varsity coaching staff is rounded out by Alec Willis and Tommy Byrnes. Coach Willis is a former standout student athlete at St Joseph’s College in Brooklyn, while Coach Byrnes brings a wide ranging background in coaching and civil service.
Our JV boys basketball team is led by Greg Civiletti (former collegiate player), and assisted by Sal Mazzaro and Brian Bernardi (Hofstra University, former pro).
