Last Monday, October 26, 2020, His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan incardinated seven priests into the Archdiocese of New York, among whom was our beloved, Fr. Rhey Garcia. A simple, yet solemn ceremony was held for the newly-incardinated at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Due to the pandemic, only a few priests and guests were allowed to witness the event. Among the priests in attendance were Fr. Robert Dillon, pastor of St. Joseph-St. Thomas StJohn Neumann, where Fr. Rhey served for eight years; Fr. Steve Ries, the Cardinal’s secretary, Msgr. LaMorte, Vicar General, Bishop Edmund Whalen, Vicar for Clergy; and some pastors. Following the ceremony, the Cardinal graciously hosted a reception in his residence. Bishop Whalen who serves as the Vicar for Clergy of the Archdiocese of New York, facilitated the incardination process. Incardination is an ecclesiastical term used for a priest who transfers from the jurisdiction of one bishop to that of another bishop.
With the incardination of Fr. Rhey, he is now officially part of the clergy of the Archdiocese of New York whose bishop is Cardinal Timothy Dolan.
