The purpose for studying art can be described as:

Introduction to Art – Freshmen
This art class is an Introduction to Art from prehistoric art (cave painting) to contemporary art (Art History). This class also includes hands on workshops that will teach the various principals of design. The students work in a variety of mediums: pencil, colored pencils (most of the time, depending on the size of classes) acrylic, charcoal, pastel, construction paper imitation of mosaic and collage. The students get a number grade that will be added in their other grades. Art 9 is required to graduate.
Since this class is an Introduction to Art; and not a studio of Art. The students learn History of Art, before they do both the study of art history and do artwork related to each period or movement.
During the year/semester the students are required to complete occasional quizzes and homework after every developed theme, to present a work of art related with each period given to them, to do art projects as well as a final written and practical exam. Every student is required to write two reports: the artist’s biography and his work of art and the period of art.
This is an all-inclusive course in art that will cover a wide range of techniques and materials to. Students explore various techniques of advertising design and enjoy freedom of expression in the fine arts. Students will practice using type effectively in advertisements; paint with acrylic, tempera or oil on canvas; use air brush, repoussé, mosaic, stained glass and printmaking; try their hands at calligraphy, drawing, and sculpture giving the students a thorough foundation in the visual arts and art studio. This course can also enable students to prepare portfolios for art schools if so desired.
The senior Art class meets every day of the cycle the entire school year. The students receive a number grade that will be averaged in with their academic subjects. They have occasional quizzes on “art critique”. Their mid-term exam is either to write their own art statement or based on the techniques learned during the semester. In addition, they should present an art report and art project. Their final exam is a special project and a research paper on two works of art or any technique that they want to develop. The students also have a written exam; this includes all the developed lessons given in class. To enhance the class, they may go on a field trip to a museum. For those students who plan to attend an art college this class offer the opportunity to prepare a portfolio.
Drawing and Painting I and II
In this course, the student will be exploring a variety of 2-D drawing and painting media. The students will have the opportunity to explore new mediums and techniques to produce compositions. Organization of compositions will be based on the Elements and Principles of Design.
A variety of drawing and painting techniques and media will be explored, including pencil, colored pencil, chalk, oil pastel, pen, ink, charcoal, pastel, acrylic, collage, watercolor, oil paint, printmaking and mixed media.
Students will work from real life observations as well as work conceptually expressing abstract ideas and emotions. Students will learn correct perspective as well as explore the mark making aspects of drawing and painting. The students will do different types of work including contour drawing, perspective one, two and three points of view, still-life, figure drawing, self portrait, landscape and others.
Drawing skills from direct observation of the figure, still-life, landscape, and architectural forms will be emphasized along with further understanding of design principles, color theory, critical thinking and problem solving.
Students will explore drawing as a way of seeing and describing as well as a way of discovering and developing ideas. Through a series of projects and exercises, students will experiment and practice with materials and techniques, observe the physical world, develop a visual vocabulary to gain an understanding of the concepts underlying criticism of art.
The purpose of art club is to provide an opportunity for any interested students to meet after school to work on special art projects and to share art experiences with their fellow students.
The goal of art club will be to:
1. Provide an opportunity for art students to further their art making experiences.
2. Allow students not currently enrolled in an art class to pursue art interests.
3. Provide service to the school and community.
4. Allow students to share their creative endeavors with other students.
5. To develop and demonstrate their artistic talent that may be hidden.
